Leadership

When churches were established in the first century, they were populated by those who were gifted as Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers. Elders were then appointed to lead each church. Seemingly there was always more than one Elder appointed for each church. Such a grouping of spiritual leaders, in our view, removes the dependency on a single figurehead and diffuses the tendency to put faith in one individual.

Emmanuel has five elders who oversee the life and work of the church. They are supported by a wider team who take responsibility for practical areas of church life and witness including worship, teaching and preaching, pastoral care and outreach as well as the usual areas of administration and finance.
